Yesterday when I was on the treadmill I was having a really difficult time. My body felt tired & after walking 1 mile I wanted to give up. My training plan called for a 4 mile walk & I sort of freaked out. I've never walked 4 miles all at once and it scared me. I wanted to give up. I kept telling myself "five more minutes" and "just keep going". By the time I got to 3 miles, I knew that I couldn't stop so I walked 4.01 miles in an hour and 12 minutes. It took me longer than I thought it would but I was proud of myself for finishing it.Spoon boy: Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth.
Neo: What truth?
Spoon boy: There is no spoon.
Neo: There is no spoon?
Spoon boy: Then you'll see that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.
While on the treadmill, the Matrix was on & it kept my mind busy during my workout. If you've watched the movie, you know that the reference to the spoon helps Neo realize that it's all in his head - he has to look inside to exact any control, to bring about even the smallest change. The object doesn't exist, so he can't change it, he has to change himself.
That's what this week's weigh in is all about for me. I gained a pound & while I know why, I know that this week's efforts are not reflected on the scale. I tracked my food every day & since I did that, I am able to pinpoint what may have caused this gain - high sodium intake, bread & mixed nuts. I tracked them all but I know I had an excess of them even if I didn't go over my points. I also know that I pushed myself during this week's workouts:
- Monday - planned rest day
- Tuesday - plan was 30 minutes walking / 63:30 minutes on the treadmill (3.57 miles)
- Wednesday - plan was a 20 minute walking/ 64 minutes on the treadmill (3.57 miles)
- Thursday - plan was 30 minutes/ 54:55 minutes on treadmill (beat my previous 5K time by a minute)
- Friday - planned rest day
- Saturday - plan was 30 minutes walking/53:27 minutes on treadmill (beat Thursday's 5K time by almost a minute & a half)
- Sunday - plan calls for a 4 mile walk/ I walked 4.01 miles in an hour & 12 minutes
Total milage walked was 17.35 miles (I have worked out 9 days out of the 15 for the No Excuses November challenge)
Usually, when I see that the scale has gone up I would call that a fail for the week. But not this week. It was a successful week for me. I want to be healthy & I know that this week I did my best & I am proud of my efforts. With the holidays coming up, I know that I am going to have to be stronger to temptation & continue with my workouts. I have not lost 75 pounds to just let it go to waste. I will not allow that to happen.
