- The walking shoes I ordered aren't here yet. My Converse aren't really the optimal shoe to walk in.
- I don't have workout clothes. All I have are jeans and I wouldn't be comfortable working out in them.
- It looks like it's going to rain.
- I want to watch the World Series.
- I'll go tomorrow.
- I only got 4 hours of sleep last night and I am tired.
- My earbuds stopped working and how can I walk with no music?
You know what these are... freaking excuses!!! I kept telling myself these things on the bus ride back to my apartment. I was seriously trying to talk myself out of walking. But I got home and remembered that I had my original iPhone earbuds so I pulled those out of the box. I put on my freaking jeans and my beloved Converse and I got my booty to the Golden Gate Bridge. I've always wanted to be one of those people who worked out on that bridge and now I am.
The deets on my first walk are pitiful but at least I have a starting point & can only improve from this point forward. I started using the Nike+ app on the iPhone to track my progress.

As you can see from the first picture & if you are familiar with the bridge, I walked to the first tower and back which was a little bit over a mile (1.66 km). My goal will be to improve my distance and/or time every day I walk. Once I got back to my car, I felt a bit winded but also really good about myself for actually doing something to help me lose weight. Yes, it wasn't too comfortable walking in jeans but I did it. And yes, it did start to rain a bit but I'm not made of sugar :)
And oh yeah, GO GIANTS!

good for you Miss M! What a way to conquer the excuses. I'm impressed.
ReplyDeleteLeslie - thanks :)
ReplyDeleteThats awesome! I too have had those days where practically any excuse 'seems' like a good excuse but nothing makes you feel as good as 'just doing it'. Oh and by the way, I call it Soda too. Afterall the original term was soda-pop so why would you cut off the soda??? No way! Cut off the pop. Plus I think its a cali thing. Here in the Pacific Northwest people call it pop and it drives me NUTS!!
ReplyDeleteXO Kristen
Kristen - it must be a Cali thing. We make our own rules. hee hee
ReplyDeleteHey - great blog! I am now following. You're brave exercising in jeans. I have tried it before and it is not comfortable at all. haha Thanks for the compliment on my name, most people have no idea how to pronounce it until I tell them
ReplyDeleteYAY for you!! That's awesome and makes me think I need to stop making excuses too.
ReplyDeleteMarisol,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on getting in your first workout. I know you will reach your goal of losing that extra weight so you can haul...when we have something we want that usually motivates us. Now I use the same excuses you do too, but no more I'm going to Zumba my butt off....Tracy
FEAR THE BEARD!! AHH! GIANTS!!
ReplyDeleteSorry, anyway, good job on working it! I feel you on the excuses. I use workaholism as an excuse constantly and it's so ridiculous. Keep it up!
Shanilie - I'll be getting more comfortable gear this weekend. Lesson learned :)
ReplyDeleteDionela - thanks hun!
Tracy - make up certainly does motivate me but I also felt so much better after going on this first initial walk. Did you Zumba today?
D - another win for the Giants! Whoo hoo!
